Research Interests: Dr. Peterson's primary research interest is in identifying the role of the autonomic nervous system in the cardiovascular adjustments to pathological or physiological stresses. Such stresses can include heart attack, stroke, or breathing noxious gasses as well as exercise and the aging process itself. Using rats as the experimental model, the potentially beneficial role of lifelong exercise has been his recent research emphasis.
